Five decades of Sikh community life in Hounslow — from 1976 to today.
Our HistoryGurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Hounslow was established in 1976 by a small group of Sikh families who had settled in west London. What began as gatherings in private homes grew quickly into the need for a permanent place of worship — a place where the sangat could come together, hear kirtan, and pass the Sikh way of life on to the next generation.Early yearsThe first premises were modest. Volunteers ran the langar, taught Punjabi to children on weekends, and organised gurpurabs around the calendar. The community pooled what little it had to keep the doors open.Growth and expansionThrough the 1980s and 1990s, the sangat grew rapidly. With that growth came the need for a larger building, expanded facilities, and a more organised committee. Today the Gurdwara hosts daily prayers, weekly diwans, weddings, akhand paaths, langar for all, and a full programme of education and community events.TodayNow in its fifth decade, SGSS Hounslow continues the work the founders began — a Gurdwara that belongs to every member of the sangat, run by the sangat, for the sangat.This page is a placeholder.
